The world is defined by the fragile balance between sovereign nations and the subterranean labyrinthine structures known as Dungeons. The militaristic Bellgrand Empire dominates northern geopolitical affairs with its rigid knightly caste, while the Rosebell Kingdom houses the renowned Second Dungeon City and Quentin Castle. Dungeons were long presumed to be natural mana-spawned caverns; however, deep exploration beneath the 20th floor reveals they are actually ancient, subterranean Magitek Facilities featuring automated elevators, steel corridors, and mechanical defense grids.
Combat strength is measured through martial aura, knightly sword arts, elemental spellcraft, and tactical gear coordination. Hunter & Guild Hierarchy: Ranging from unregistered novitiates up through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and the rare Diamond tiers. High-tier status dictates access to restricted dungeon floors and deep-strata military expeditions. Knightly Orders: Imperial Knights and Kingdom Guards possess specialized aura-based sword techniques (such as Ash’s lethal "Slaughterer" style) and form the vanguard of open-field military actions. Magical Arts: Elemental magic operates through incantations and high-output mana channels, categorized into elemental affinities such as Lightning, Fire, Wind, and Earth, alongside forbidden sub-schools like Mind-Control Spells.
The Janus Unit: An elite, independent hunter party founded by Ash Hearts and Ulca, later joined by the Albadyne siblings, specializing in uncharted deep-floor dungeon dives. Rosebell Royal Crown & Military: Led by Queen Clarisse Rosebell alongside high commanders like Roy Olano and Marquis Edgar Bailuna, balancing national defense with subterranean tech research. Bellgrand Empire: A ruthlessly competitive empire that exiled Ash Hearts after courtly betrayals, maintaining a massive standing army of elite Imperial Knights. Aron Holy Kingdom: A covert religious superpower operating in the shadows through clandestine mages, mind-control agents, and political assassins aiming to claim ancient magitek secrets.
The Magitek Facility Paradigm: Dungeons are non-natural automated complexes built by an extinct, high-tech ancient civilization. They regenerate monsters, maintain security golems, and utilize high-density Pure Mana Jewels as primary power sources.
Formerly known as "Ash the Slaughterer," he was one of the Bellgrand Empire's most feared elite Imperial Knights. Stripped of his noble title and disgraced following a cruel betrayal by his former fiancée, Ash shed his old ties and relocated to the Rosebell Kingdom. Reforging himself as a freelance Dungeon Hunter, he establishes the Janus Unit. Ash possesses a stoic, pragmatically brilliant mind, combining terrifying battle instincts with an unyielding protective instinct toward those who earn his trust. Combat abilities and traits: Master of elite imperial swordplay, heavy martial aura reinforcement, expert battlefield tactics, anti-armor dismantling techniques, and proficiency with mounted heavy crossbows and anti-golem weaponry.
Chapter 1A high-born noblewoman and former Imperial Knight who voluntarily abandoned her rank, wealth, and status in Bellgrand to follow Ash into exile. Serving as the co-founder and logistical spine of the Janus Unit, Ulca combines lethal marksmanship with unwavering emotional fidelity. After surviving an assassination and mind-control plot orchestrated by the Aron Holy Kingdom, she accepts Ash's formal proposal of marriage. Combat abilities and traits: Master archer specializing in precision long-range support, rapid-fire sniper arts, close-quarters dual-dagger combat, and high-level agility techniques.
Chapter 1A gifted young noble spellcaster who fled his family to escape an unwanted arranged marriage and carve out his own destiny as an independent hunter. Immature yet fiercely determined, Ren possesses rare, high-output magical talent. Under Ash's rigorous tactical instruction, he learns to channel his overwhelming power into controlled, lethal anti-construct attacks within the Janus Unit. Combat abilities and traits: High-output Lightning Magic, wide-area elemental suppression spells, and focused armor-piercing lightning bolts.
Chapter 35A fiery, red-haired spear wielder who originally made her living as a veteran solo mercenary. Fiercely protective of her younger brother Ren, she initially acts as his guardian before recognizing Ash's superior leadership and joining the Janus Unit full-time. Mirei acts as the frontline vanguard alongside Ash, breaching heavily armored enemy lines. Combat abilities and traits: High-speed spear techniques, thrust-based aura attacks, vanguard defensive formations, and close-quarters melee combat.
Chapter 35A noble Rosebell Kingdom Knight who has long shared a competitive, respect-fueled rivalry with Ash Hearts. Serving as the primary liaison between the Rosebell military, the Hunter Association, and the Janus Unit, Bail balances his duties as a kingdom officer with his personal honor, often fighting alongside Ash in high-risk dungeon expeditions. Combat abilities and traits: Orthodox Rosebell heavy swordplay, defensive knightly aura, and battalion leadership.
Chapter 5A seasoned high-ranking military commander in the Rosebell Kingdom who commands joint dungeon expedition forces. Recognizing Ash's tactical genius and unmatched martial capability, Commander Olano consistently advocates for the Janus Unit at court and relies on them to spearhead dangerous dives into unexplored strata. Combat abilities and traits: Veteran command tactics, large-scale battle management, and senior knight sword techniques.
Chapter 14A prominent scholar and high-ranking noble in the Rosebell Kingdom responsible for researching ancient artifacts. Fascinated by the magitek origins of the dungeon, Marquis Edgar sponsors high-level expeditions and relies on Ash's party to recover ancient technological relics, elevator controls, and power cores. Combat abilities and traits: Arcane research, ancient magitek decipherment, political sway, and strategic logistics.
Chapter 14The calculating monarch of the Rosebell Kingdom. While publicly honoring Ash and the Janus Unit for protecting her realm, Queen Clarisse operates with ruthless pragmatism behind closed doors. She secretly deals with black-market underworld brokers, trading ancient pure mana jewels to unlock forgotten technological weapons and secure absolute geopolitical dominance for her crown. Combat abilities and traits: Sovereign political authority, covert intelligence networks, state-level resource manipulation, and master-level political intrigue.
Chapter 28Ch. 1 - 13
Following his public betrayal and dishonorable discharge from the Bellgrand Imperial Knights, Ash Hearts discards his noble title and travels alongside his faithful comrade Ulca to the Rosebell Kingdom's Second Dungeon City. Registering as a freelance hunter, Ash quickly causes a sensation by single-handedly suppressing a blue ape monster outbreak and forming the Janus Unit. The arc culminates on the 13th floor, where Ash engages in a duel against the Black Knight Dullahan, slaying the floor boss, establishing the Janus Unit's dominance, and earning exclusive preferential hunter status from the Guild.
Ch. 14 - 23
Commissioned by Marquis Edgar and Commander Roy Olano, the Janus Unit joins a joint military expedition to explore the uncharted 17th to 20th subterranean floors. Battling through dangerous wetland biomes, the force defeats an organized army of Lizardmen and slays the formidable Lizard King. Upon breaching the 20th floor, the team uncovers functional mechanical elevators, steel walls, and automated magitek architecture, upending historical knowledge by revealing that dungeons are artificial complexes engineered by an ancient civilization.
Ch. 24 - 34
A wave of mysterious hunter murders known as the "Maneater" incidents strikes the Second Dungeon City, prompting Ash and Ulca to launch a covert investigation. They uncover a conspiracy orchestrated by agents of the Aron Holy Kingdom, who seek to kidnap magitek researchers and destabilize Rosebell. After breaking a hostile mage's mind-control spell over Ulca, Ash annihilates the conspiracy ring, receives royal commendations at Quentin Castle, and officially proposes to Ulca with a custom-crafted enchanted bracelet.
Ch. 35 - 51
Subterranean exploration on the 21st and 22nd floors grinds to a halt when metal-eating spider golems and lethal humanoid sentinels firing concentrated energy beams wipe out elite scouting teams. Reorganizing the Janus Unit by recruiting the runaway noble lightning wizard Ren and the veteran spear wielder Mirei, Ash devises novel anti-armor tactics utilizing mounted heavy crossbows, elemental overload, and Ren’s high-output lightning magic. Overcoming the mechanical sentinels in a brutal floor battle, the expanded squad breaches the 22nd floor barrier to expose a hidden, high-tech subterranean facility deep beneath the earth.
